Absolutely, Tom! I think we’re just wired towards the path of least resistance, and books offer more resistance (but more rewards) than YouTube or TV.
I want to believe that once they get hooked with a book they really enjoy, they will keep coming back for more - so how can we nurture that in children who just don’t think they like reading at all?
It seems strange with children’s curiosity, their quest for knowledge and understanding that books aren’t the default choice.
Like you said, that’s on the adults. If a child shows interest in a video or TV program, that can be the guide for suggesting books on the topic.
Talk to children about what they read and learn. A bit of adult acknowledgement goes a long way.

When a child says they don’t like to read, are they telling you they don’t read well? Is the root problem reading skill?
There may be some truth to that. Hoping to find some answers!
